William Morris and Co.: Membland Tile Panel
Membland was the only floral panel design produced on such a large scale. William Morris designed it on commission to decorate Membland Hall in Devon by architect George Devey. Six of an unknown number of panels survive. Each panel consists of 66 tiles (60 six-inch tiles, and 6 3x6 inch tiles) and stands 5 ft. 3 inches tall and three feet wide. The panel was intended for the bathroom at Membland Hall.
Designed by William Morris, the panels were produced by William De Morgan. The first set was hand painted on on earthware blanks. De Morgan used his own Fulham Pottery tiles for at least one panel, but also used locally-made blanks for others. Morris himself was unhappy with the quality of locally-made blanks and used imported blanks. See More about Morris and Co.'s tile making process.

How to Care for Your Tile
You can clean ceramic tiles with any household non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge. You can clean sealed marble tiles the same way.

Installing Your Tile
Laying out your tile in order will make installation easier. The back of each tile is marked with its location in the overall design.
Use only unsanded grout when setting your tile.

I am still working on the base design for these tiles and will be for several months. I am also working on a horizontal version with the squared off top row in a smaller tile (4.25) which would be suitable for a backsplash.
